END OF SECOND QUARTER:
Can you believe we are halfway through the school year already? Today is the end of the Second Quarter. Report cards will be issued Friday, January 28.
FIRST CONFESSION RETREAT:
All those preparing for their First Reconciliation (aka First Confession) must attend the First Confession Retreat, Saturday, Jan. 29 from 10 to 12:30 a.m. in the Bishop Kelley Community Room. The actual Sacrament of Reconciliation will be administered on Saturday, Feb. 12 in Immaculate Conception Church.
STAR TESTING:
This nationally accredited testing program continues through February 11. Please be sure your students are well rested so they can do their best.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK:
Our teachers are planning engaging activities to observe Catholic Schools Week which takes place Jan. 30-Feb. 5. Be sure to ask your students what they are learning.
STAFFING CHANGES:
We are pleased to announced that Kevin Quain is joining our staff as Middle School Teacher, effective Monday, Jan. 24. We also thank Mrs. Hein and appreciate her work with our students and staff. May God grant her the best of His blessings as she leaves BKCS.
PRESCHOOL VISION AND HEARING TESTING:
The Lapeer County Health Department will conduct vision and hearing testing for preschoolers on Feb. 24 and on February 28 starting at 9 a.m.

HOW TO ORDER LUNCH THROUGH FACTS SIS FAMILY PORTAL

1. Log into your FACTS Family Portal, via the account of the parent designated as the FACTS customer.
2. In the upper left corner, click on the 3 lines, then click on “Student.”
3. Scroll down to “This Week’s Lunch Menu”
4. Make sure the date is for the proper week. (Use the drop-down menu if needed to change to the appropriate week.) (Note: Orders must be placed by 11 a.m. on Monday of that week.)
5. Click “Create Web Order” (top left of screen).
6. Click on each child’s name. You will then see each day’s menu.
7. Click on the items you wish to buy
8. Put 1 or 2 in the QTY box beside the item you wish to buy for each child.
9. Repeat steps 2-8 for each child.
10. After you have selected everything you want to order, click “Submit Order”
11. Complete payment as with other FACTS transactions.

Our school operated in "Secure Mode" for approximately 20 minutes on Dec. 9. We were informed by Lapeer City Police of a potential unspecified threat in the Lapeer area and advised to go into secure mode. Twenty minutes later, we were informed that a subject had been taken into custody for questioning but no further details were provided. We were permitted to end "secure mode" at that time.

Please be assured that we immediately secured the building and no direct apparent threat was observed to our students, staff, or building. We presented the situation as a lengthy secure mode drill so as to not worry the students.

The safety of your children is of prime importance. For that reason, please be advised that we do not permit anyone other than staff or students into our building without permission at any time. If you need to speak with your students' teachers or assist your student in any way, please check in at the front office.

Further, if we are advised to go into "secure mode," we are not allowed to release students even into their parents' care while in that mode. Thank you for helping us to ensure the safety of your students.

Here at Bishop Kelley Catholic School, the safety of our students and staff is extremely important. When we learn of potential threats, we go into Secure Mode as appropriate to the situation: Doors are locked. Students are kept indoors. We remain in contact with local law enforcement, media, schools, the parish offices, and other resources as needed. We also strive to remain in contact with families to give them the best information we have available. And, of course, we pray for peaceful, safe outcomes.
In addition to keeping your children safe, we also strive to use such situations as opportunities for them to learn safe, calm conduct. We conduct safety drills throughout the year to reinforce the current best safety practices.
We hope and pray that the unthinkable never happens here but please be assured we are doing the best we can to ensure the safety of our BKCS family.

To give a visual witness of our prayerful support for the people of Oxford Community Schools, we will have a jeans today, Friday, Dec. 3.
Please wear your favorite jeans (blue preferred) along with the Oxford Schools' colors of blue and gold. Or, you may wear Oxford Schools' or Oxford, MI, shirts, hoodies, or jackets.
Please bring $1 or more, which will be donated to help victims' families with unexpected expenses resulting from this week's tragedy.

In honor of our last day of school before the Thanksgiving break, we will have a jeans day this Friday. Wear your favorite BKS Spirit Wear (or the school colors of dark green, navy blue and/or white with your favorite blue or black denim or khakis) and bring $1 or more to benefit the Immaculate Conception Food Pantry.
(Please, no leggings, jeggings, sweatpants or other similar casual athletic wear.) Thanks for helping us those in our own community who are less fortunate.

We are seeking two  paid part-time staff members:
Our Lunch Supervisor orders hot lunches every week and also oversees our Community Lunch Room.
Our Athletic Director coordinates with the Catholic Youth Organization to oversee our athletic program, parent contacts, organize volunteer resources (coaches, parent volunteers) etc.
In addition, we always need your help. Remember, we do ask for Volunteers for a variety of activities as part of your commitment to BKS.
We most especially need your volunteer help during our lunch program -- M-F from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. We need people to monitor playground activity as well as the lunchroom.
